Colfax K-8 school in Squirrel Hill has been cleared after being placed on lockdown for more than two hours Wednesday morning.
The school was on lockdown following an anonymous call around 9 a.m. to the school office saying a student had a weapon.

District spokesperson Ebony Pugh said at the time that she did not know what kind of weapon the student was alleged to have.
Pittsburgh police were called to the scene to check the interior and exterior of the building.
Pittsburgh public safety spokesperson Chris Togneri said no injuries were reported and after police went through the school, room-by-room with K-9 officers, it was deemed safe.
Parents and guardians of the nearly 900 students attending the school have been notified.
Some parents are taking kids home but it appears that, for the moment at least, a lot will stay to continue the school day. A mom told me a Halloween parade was scheduled and kids were excited this morning to change into costumes. @905wesa

Assistant Superintendent Melissa Friez said the school day will continue, but parents or guardians who'd like to pick up their kids may do so and should have an ID.
Colfax Elementary is located on Beechwood Boulevard in Squirrel Hill South, just more than 1 mile from the Tree of Life Synagogue where 11 people were killed Saturday. Friez said it's the largest elementary school in the city.
