The One Young World Summit will be held in the United States for the first time this fall and right here in Pittsburgh. The conference provides an opportunity for aspiring leaders to represent their respective businesses and showcase their talent.
Katie McSorley, President of the Mid-Atlantic region for Euro RSCG, one of the largest marketing and public relations firms in the world, said the event is not only a meeting of the best and brightest youth, but a networking opportunity as well.
"This event is really giving a nod to the leaders of tomorrow to help them begin to shape their opinions and help to develop programs, either for the businesses that they work for, or for their countries," McSorley said.
Nearly 1,300 delegates in their early twenties from more than 190 countries are expected to attend, along with a list of several keynote speakers. McSorley said this year's summit will be highlighted by an appearance by former President Bill Clinton.
"He will be one of 25-30 counselors, and these are high-profile, highly recognized world leaders, whether in business, government, or philanthropy, who will be coming to Pittsburgh to help facilitate discussion among the young leaders," McSorley said.
The summit was first held in 2010 in London, England, and then in Zurich, Switzerland last year. McSorley said Pittsburgh competed with many other international cities in submitting a bid for this year. She believed it was the city's friendliness and hospitality that swayed the decision.
"We were up against other cities such as Johannesburg, Dubai, Melbourne, and because of the way we packaged our bid, it really helped," McSorley said.
The summit will be held from October 18-22 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
