Ground was broken today for the Capitol Hunger Garden in Harrisburg.
Representatives of the Department of Agriculture, Department of General Services, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Feeding America, Downtown Daily Bread and Penn State's Master Gardeners joined public officials for the start of the garden’s fourth growing season.
“About one in five people in Pennsylvania do not know where their next meal is coming from,” said Kyle Stewart, spokesman for state Rep. Jake Wheatley (D-Allegheny). “So today was really the opening of the Hunger Garden, which gets the produce that’s harvested there to local food banks and is actually is also packaged in a salsa that is distributed throughout the commonwealth.”
The Capitol Hunger Garden is located adjacent to the State Capitol Building between the governor's entrance and the Ryan Office Building.
