At forums and debates, the Democratic gubernatorial candidates have largely agreed on policy issues, but one of the eight-person field is try to break out of the pack with a television ad this week.
Katie McGinty, a former Department of Environmental Protection secretary, says her ad will air before and after the president’s State of the Union Address, on CNN and MSNBC.
Gov. Tom Corbett has already hit the television airwaves with an ad last November, but McGinty is the first Democratic contender to launch a TV spot.
"It’s a completely positive ad, and it touches very much on the theme of hard work, hardworking families can and should have a shot at getting ahead," he said.
McGinty isn’t saying how much the statewide ad is costing her campaign.
Campaign finance reports are due at the end of the month, but some candidates have been disclosing what they’ve raised so far.
The field of Democratic challengers includes York County businessman Tom Wolf, who leads the money count so far due to his own contribution of $10 million.
Also contending for the Democratic nomination are Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, state Treasurer Rob McCord, Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, former DEP Secretary John Hanger, Cumberland County minister Max Myers and Lebanon County Commissioner JoEllen Litz.
Corbett’s campaign has reported having $7.5 million on hand.
