Gov. Corbett Doing Well After Surgery In Pittsburgh

Updated: 10:35 a.m.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett's office says his hernia surgery went well and he's resumed his role and powers as governor.

Corbett returned to Pittsburgh to have the outpatient surgery performed at Allegheny General Hospital so he could recover in his Shaler home.

Corbett was under general anesthesia from 7:10 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. Spokesperson Jay Pagni said the governor "was in great spirits" as he left the hospital.

Corbett will remain in Shaler through the weekend and return to work in Harrisburg Monday.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett is in Pittsburgh today to have hernia surgery.

His office describes the Thursday morning procedure at Allegheny General Surgical Center on the North Side as minor and says he's expected to be under general anesthesia for about an hour.

By state law Corbett will turn over the reins of power briefly to Lt. Governor James Cawley.

The outpatient laparoscopic procedure is to repair an abdominal hernia.

Corbett expects to recuperate over the weekend at his home in Shaler. His schedule is clear until Monday, when he is expected to return to work in Harrisburg.

Corbett's office plans to announce when the governor is awake, alert and deemed by his doctor able to resume his duties as governor.
