Corbett Calls Sting Charges 'Satisfying'

Gov. Tom Corbett said Wednesday that he's pleased charges have been filed against two additional public officials ensnared by a sting operation that began under his tenure as attorney general.

"It's satisfying to see when there appears to be enough evidence to charge somebody and let a jury make the decision as to whether they're innocent or guilty," said Corbett, speaking on Radio Pennsylvania's Ask the Governor program.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams took over the sting case after it was abandoned by Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who called it flawed and said it targeted black officials.

But beyond noting his own satisfaction, Corbett said he's not getting between the apparent feud between Williams and Kane.

"Obviously there's a prosecutor there that thinks there was enough evidence to warrant the prosecution," Corbett said. "There's a disagreement between two prosecutors right now and you can always have disagreements like that."

Williams has now charged three public officials caught up in the sting, which netted at least five public officials. A Philadelphia grand jury continues to investigate the case.
