Gov. Tom Wolf visited the Mon Valley’s first vaccination site this week. Health and science reporter Sarah Boden was there, and says the governor was optimistic about the state’s rollout. The clinic at Bethlehem Baptist Church is run by the Allegheny County Health Department, and comes as Pennsylvania prepares to make the COVID-19 vaccine available to every residents age 16 or older on April 19.
Pittsburgh City Council unanimously agreed to scale back a moratorium on evictions. On Tuesday, councilors removed a provision that required landlords to renew leases for tenants whose failure to pay rent was due to the coronavirus. Government and accountability reporter Ariel Worthy reports it also lowered fines for landlords who violate the moratorium.
The federal government hasproposed more bed space in the Berks Family Residential Center, which wasn’t publicly available until news organizations filed a Right-to-Know request. WITF’s Anthony Orozco was among those reporters, and explains what the proposal would mean for immigrant families who could be housed in Pennsylvania.
