Read and listen to a story about Noah Hertzman as part of a series honoring the individuals who make a difference in people’s lives: 90.5 WESA Celebrates People Making a Difference.

Back when he was six years old, when most kids his age could not comprehend the meaning of food insecurity, Noah understood exactly what that meant.

“The thing is I’ve always been concerned about some of my friends because even as early as kindergarten I knew that some of them were in very poor areas and were on a free or reduced-priced lunch, so that was always a pretty big deal to me” Noah said.

His compassion for helping the hungry culminated this past fall while baking bread with his mom’s bread machine. He decided to sell loves and donate all of the money to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. Noah began selling them at $5 a loaf and donating every penny.
