Parkway East To Close This Weekend For Greenfield Bridge Work

PennDOT

Leave extra travel time if you plan to take Parkway East this weekend.

The inbound and outbound sides are scheduled to close in spots starting 11 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.

The outbound detour begins at the Oakland exit, but drivers should be able to access the outbound parkway from the Squirrel Hill/Homestead and Edgewood/Swissvale entrances.

The inbound closure starts at the Wilkinsburg exit, but drivers should be able to access the parkway from the Boulevard of the Allies entrance ramp. PennDOT officials said Tuesday to expect heavy delays. Police officers will be out directing traffic along the posted detours, they said.

The closures are part of the Greenfield Bridge rebuilding project, which requires removing concrete slabs in preparation for the bridge's implosion.

Parkway East will close again the first weekend in December, from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 through 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6.
