Pittsburgh's New City Council President Focused on Open Communication

Bruce Kraus was sworn in as the new President of the Pittsburgh City Council on Monday. Although Kraus has often been allied with former council member and now Mayor Bill Peduto, he vows to be an independent voice in city government.

Moving forward, he says he's especially interested in bringing more collegiality to a somewhat factioned city council.

“I think it’s about open lines of communication. Council has been viewed as a majority of five and we’re a council of nine.”

Kraus says basic services such as street cleaning, ice clearing and deciding what to do with blighted and abandoned buildings, are some of the most important things for the city to address right now.
