Treat Yourself: Social Club November 11th

Election Day is over and you deserve a fun weekend. How about some chocolate, drinks and shopping? WESA’s Sarah Kovash, Yelp Pittsburgh’s Rachel and Josh Raulerson are here to fill you in on the weekend activities you need to know!

First, let’s get you a drink. Wigle Whiskey Beer Week continues this weekend. They are releasing their new oatmeal stout-inspired Quaker Strength Whiskey, so be sure to try that. Sarah’s favorite food, chili, will be on display with a chili cook-off challenge and be sure to catch the 3rd Annual Homebrewers Festival!

If you want to keep it classy, the Pittsburgh Tea Festival is this Friday at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. This one-of-a-kind festival lets tea lovers taste, sample and shop for their favorite teas. There will even be a tea fashion show (what does one where to that?) at the event. Friendly heads up, don’t ask for Lipton Tea. Don’t be that person.

Keep the night going by heading over to 21 Plus Night: Glass at the Carnegie Science Center. Enjoy live glass blowing demonstrations, drinks and the exhibits. You can even make your own colorful fused glass tile for an additional fee.

On Saturday, head over to St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church for a Pierogies Festival. On the menu is pierogies (obviously) ,soups, and traditional baked goods.

Then it is time to treat yourself right with The Chocolate Bar at the Benedum Center on Saturday night. This is a dessert lover’s paradise. Your favorite chocolatiers will be there, along with signature cocktails and a performance from The Chocolate Girls. Our mouths are watering just thinking about all the chocolate on hand!

On Sunday, let’s do some shopping. The Freaky Flea is at Spirit. Find all your unique and interesting holiday gifts there.  Maybe a nice taxidermy squirrel as a center piece for Thanksgiving dinner? Let us know what you find.

Looking ahead: Not sure what to get the family for the holidays and want to do some shopping ahead of time? Pittsburgh Vintage Market is on November 18th. Look for some Christmas gifts or just buy yourself something.  I Made It! For The Holidays is on Black Friday (25th) and Small Business Saturday (26th). There is no excuse for not finding that perfect present!

Friendly heads up, we’ll be gone for the next two weeks. We also want to let you know that sadly, Josh Raulerson is leaving us as WESA’s Morning Edition host and taking on his new role as Captain Planet* at the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. Luckily for us, Josh will be staying on with Social Club, so you don’t have to miss him TOO much. Also, on this Veteran’s Day, we want to take time and thank all those who have served.

Have a great weekend everybody and happy turkey day!

XOXO Social Club
