President Donald Trump is postponing a campaign rally next week in the Pittsburgh area, the early political hotspot of 2018's congressional elections.

Trump's campaign says Thursday the decision is out of respect and sympathy for the victims and survivors of the Florida high school shooting that left 17 dead.

A Monmouth University poll shows a close race in Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district, with Republican Rick Saccone at 49 percent and Democrat Conor Lamb at 46 percent. Trump won the district by almost 20 percentage points. Pollsters interviewed 320 likely voters by telephone from Feb. 12-14. The sampling margin of error was plus or minus 5.5 percentage points.

A special election is set March 13 to pick a successor to Republican Rep. Tim Murphy, an abortion rights opponent who resigned after his hometown newspaper reported he suggested a mistress get an abortion.
