The Pittsburgh Planning Commission presented their option for a 178-acre development in Hazelwood last month. At the time, project manager Rebecca Flora called the idea "transformative," but as the neighborhood moves forward, who might be left behind?

Sonya Tilghman, executive director of the Hazelwood Initiative, is joined by Rev. Tim Smith, pastor at the Keystone Church of Hazelwood and executive director of the Center of Life. They discuss how this project will affect Hazelwood's local businesses, how community members can weigh in, and the future of Hazelwood public transit.

Elsewhere in the program, David Hickton, former U.S. Attorney and founding director for the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute of Cyber Law, Policy and Security, explains how Pennsylvania elections were targeted by cyber hackers in 2016 and what to expect in the upcoming midterms.

And 90.5 WESA's Liz Reid explores the controversary around various methods of infant sleep training, including whether cry-it-out methods are safe for children.

The Confluence, where the news comes together, is 90.5 WESA’s daily news program. Tune in weekdays at 9 a.m. to hear newsmakers and innovators join veteran journalist Kevin Gavin, taking an in-depth look at stories important to the Pittsburgh region. Find more episodes of The Confluence here.
