Anyone who has a health risk listed on the state’s phase 1A health eligibility requirements can now get the COVID-19 vaccine through the Allegheny County Health Department. Sarah Boden reports that previously, the county was only vaccinating people in 1A who were over 50.
“The lower age limited, either 16 or 18 for those 1A eligible, will vary by which vaccine we are giving at each site,” said Dr. Debra Boden, head of the health department.
Currently the county has vaccination sites in Castle Shannon, as well as Oakland and the Hill District. Bogen says the county is also planning sites for the Mon Valley and the western part of the county.
The Allegheny County Health Department is reporting 498 new coronavirus cases today. Case counts have been inching up over the past several weeks. The last time the county’s daily case counts were at this level was in January.
Boden reports the trend is almost certainly related to the rise of more infectious coronavirus variants.
