Training the Next Generation of African-American Leaders

Robert Morris University

Pittsburgh is one of the few major cities in the northeast that has not had an African American mayor. At present there are only two African Americans on its city council. Where will the next generation of community leaders come from?

The 7th Annual Black Male Leadership Development Institute at Robert Morris University, in partnership with the Urban League of Pittsburgh is conducting a week-long program for young men. Over the course of a week the students will participate in workshops and activities designed to instill good communication, leadership and management.

Rex Crawley, assistant dean of the university’s School of Communication and Information Systems and co-director of the institute wants students to understand the importance of having a “healthy sense of self.”
