Former Penn State Adminstrators to Stand Trial

Following two days of preliminary hearings, Former Penn State president Graham Spanier, former vice president Gary Schultz and ex-athletic director Tim Curley will go to trial in what has been called the worst scandal in college football history. Bob Dvorchak, author of the book “Game Over” has written about the Jerry Sandusky child abuse case, and says this is not at all a surprise.

“To think that they wouldn’t go forward with it would be a real shock to me,” he added.  One of Gary Shultz’s secretaries has stood before a jury explaining that she was always firmly told to stay away from Sandusky’s file in the former vice president’s office.  There are also email exchanges and paperwork that suggest these former administrators understood what was going on with Sandusky.

Many still debate whether or not the late Joe Paterno did the right thing, but Dvorchak emphasizes the power that Paterno had at Penn State.
“Some say he actually ran the university.”

Even though the 45 guilty verdicts against Sandusky were climactic, they are only a part of what prosecutors have called a “culture of conspiracy” at the school.
