BikeFest: Celebrating the Culture of Cycling

Bike Pittsburgh’s annual Bike Fest is back with over 100 events, celebrating the bike community and the city.  Bike Pittsburgh Executive Director Scott Brinker says with the addition of more bright green lanes, miles of bike trails and a promising new bike share program for 2014, Pittsburghers are embracing the bicycle culture.

“People are looking to visit places where it’s easy to get around on foot and on bike,” Brinker explains, citing that with more riders, lanes and the new bike-share program, the city will be more accessible than ever.

Many may have misconceptions about sharing the road with cyclists and motorists.  But Brinker says the best solution is a different mindset about road expectations.

“Part of why we’re doing Bike Fest is to introduce more bicyclists to the mission of Bike Pittsburgh and how to ride safely.”

Bike Fest is a 17 day-long celebration with options such as bike-themed movies, and a night time light-up ride.  The event will culminate with Pedal Pittsburgh, where riders can choose one of three rides around the city.
