The Steel Curtain was considered the key to the Steelers success in the 1970s and on Sunday the third of the four legendary defensive lineman died. LC “Hollywood Bags” Greenwood died at the age of 67. The cause of death was kidney failure, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner.
One of the most memorable moments in Greenwood’s career for Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sportswriter emeritus Bob Dvorchak was a discussion during Greenwood’s rookie year when he told a homesick teammate, “I’m not going home till they tell me to leave” and Greenwood held true to his word staying in the Pittsburgh community well after his final playing days for the Steelers.
Joe Greene is the only defensive lineman from the “Steel Curtain” that is still alive today.
