Monday Rundown: Preserving a Free and Open Internet

These topics air Monday May 5, 2014 at noon and 8pm on 90.5 WESA.

New Rules for Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality is the concept used when we talk about the importance of a free and open internet. But recent changes from the Federal Communications Commission may change the way service providers provide access to consumers. Orion Czarnecki is an internet security consultant who can break down the concept of net neutrality, the new rules, and what's at stake.

US Congressman Mike Doyle sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is an advocate for net neutrality. We’ll talk about where he stands with the FCC’s new ruling and how he thinks the changes might impact innovation, small businesses and consumer access to content in the region.

Bad Behavior in Sports

Now that L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million by commissioner Adam Silver after racist remarks he made were published online, how far should sports leagues go to clean up bad behavior, not only by owners, but coaches and players. We'll have a discussion with veteran AP sports editor and journalist John Affleck who is Knight Chair in Sports Journalism and Society at Penn State.
