A New Collection of Abraham Lincoln Photos Comes to the Carnegie Free Library

The Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall in Carnegie is now home to a collection of 100 photos of President Abraham Lincoln. The exhibit opens today, and we’ll get a preview of this collection from Margaret J. Forbes, Executive Director Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall.

The Library came to be in possession of the photos thanks to its preservation of the Capt. Thomas Espy Post 153 of the Grand Army of the Republic, which is among the most intact GAR posts in the country.

The collection includes the earliest known daguerreotype of Lincoln to the only known photograph of the president lying in his coffin in 1865.
