Repurposing: It’s Good for Business

Rebecca Harris

Repurposing refers to finding new uses for items. Some enterprising entrepreneurs have even turned this into a profitable moneymaking venture.

This week business contributor Rebecca Harris looks at the business of repurposing.

Harris emphasizes that repurposingdoesn’t just change the use of old goods; it also changes their value.

It’s not a new movement, Harris acknowledges, but repurposing has taken on a new and trendy identity in recent years, as it’s an ecologically friendly practice and at the same time satisfies consumers’ ambition to have distinctive, one-of-a-kind items.

Locally, Harris says, this repurposing movement can be seen in local retail institutions like the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, the Ideas Vintage Market in Sewickley and Construction Junction.
