Is Southwestern Pennsylvania Still Trump Country?

Shakeups in senior leadership, failed attempts to overturn the Affordable Care Act, military mandates issued via social media and comments about police conduct have plagued President Donald Trump last few weeks.

Reporters Chris Potter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Meg Fair of Pittsburgh City Paper and the Greensburg Tribune-Review's Jamie Martines roundup 45's latest happenings, including his administration's first local campaign rally of 2020 in Youngstown, Ohio.


A 1,300-pound chunk of granite fell from underneath the Frick Building's southwest cornice early Sunday, indefinitely closing small portions of Grant Street and Forbes Avenue Downtown. The piece fell days after the city released a report estimating $60 million will be needed to repair aging city-owned buildings and related structures.

The Post-Gazette's Adam Smeltz and the Pittsburgh Trib's Bob Bauder say there's no money for that much work in the existing capital budget.


During the last four school years, 80 percent of Pittsburgh Public Schools students who were arrested or received citations were black, despite a student population of only 53 percent black. The detentions and detainments range from overnight stays in the Allegheny County Jail for teenagers, to putting handcuffs on Kindergartners.
