Last September, the Allegheny County Airport Authority announced a $1.1 billion renovation to Pittsburgh International Airport. The Authority is now searching for an architectural and engineering design firm to spearhead the project.

The Pittsburgh International Airport is about to have a major makeover. Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said the Pittsburgh region is "a growing, tech-focused economy" and its airport should better reflect that. The renovations are expected to cost $1.1 billion

A grant from the Hillman Foundation will help the Port Authority of Allegheny County in its search for a new CEO.

The $100,000 gift will cover their $91,575 contract with Krauthamer & Associates of Maryland, plus a portion of $20,000 in expenses. Krauthamer recruited Allegheny County Airport CEO Christina Cassotis.

A municipal authority that oversees Pittsburgh International Airport is considering downsizing the facility, which has seen significantly less passenger traffic since US Airways closed its hub there in 2004.

Allegheny County Airport Authority officials say they're considering reducing the number of gates and better promoting the area's economy, culture and innovation.

The authority is considering demolishing parts of the concourses.

Officials say the authority is working on a master plan that should be completed next year.
