Pittsburgh International Airport will soon break ground on its World Trade Center site. The 195-acre development is expected to host energy and advanced manufacturing facilities.

Allegheny County first paid for a World Trade Center designation decades ago, but its purpose has only recently come into focus, said Vince Gastgeb, the airport’s vice president of government and community affairs.

Frontier Airlines announced it will end its service from Pittsburgh to Denver just one month after it started offering the flight.

Officials from Frontier Airlines and the Pittsburgh International Airport said the airline would discontinue flights to Denver in January on a seasonal basis, although the flights were not billed as seasonal when they began in June.

Pittsburgh International Airport will begin offering daily nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, officials announced Wednesday.

Travelers can book their seats now through JetBlue for the inaugural flight, leaving Pittsburgh Oct. 29 at 7:15 a.m. Those making the trip will receive discounted airport parking.

Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County Chief Executive, said the new year-round flight will benefit travelers and businesses.
