TV on the Radio: Experimental and Irresistible

TV on the Radio.
TV on the Radio.
TV on the Radio in Studio on World Cafe - 12/21/2006

The music of TV on the Radio is generally classified as indie-rock, but its songs incorporate old and new elements of punk, hip-hop, techno and pop for an experimental musical mix that remains irresistibly catchy.

The Brooklyn band started as a duo, when vocalist Tunde Adebimpe and multi-instrumentalist David Andrew Sitek moved into the same building. After the addition of guitarist Kyp Malone, among others, their first full-length album with TV on the Radio (Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes) got them invited to tour with the Pixies and signed to a major label.

The recent The Return to Cookie Mountain, which includes a guest appearance by David Bowie, stands as one of 2006's most enthusiastically reviewed albums, and rightfully so. In this interview and performance, TV on the Radio's members discuss their new album, as well as a controversial protest song on the group's website.

This segment originally aired on Dec. 21, 2006.
