Silversun Pickups' members often find themselves compared to The Smashing Pumpkins, due to their sweeping rock sound and use of distorted guitars. Brian Aubert's vocals range from ghostly whispers to powerful cries, while appearing against a landscape of fuzz-drenched guitar, trembling bass and ethereal keyboards.
Silversun Pickups first made waves in 2005 with the release of a debut EP titled Pikul. The band would find mainstream success the following year, with the release of its full-length debut, Carnavas. In April, the group returned with a follow-up, Swoon, so named because the word struck Aubert as "some sort of dance, but also very tragic."
In their first visit to World Café, Silversun Pickups' members explain how they approached Swoon compared to prior efforts.
