Did you know that Sting got his name because he once wore a bright yellow and black sweater with one of his early bands? It wasn't with The Police, but the two have become synonymous in rock music. The Police mixed new wave with reggae and pop and most famously released Synchronicity in 1983. Since then, Sting has become a successful solo artist who dips into multiple styles of music, even those performed with a lute.
After a short reunion of The Police in 2007, Sting began working on a unusual holiday album. If on a Winter's Night is generations-spanning seasonal music for those who don't necessarily like holiday music. In an interview with World Cafe guest host Michaela Majoun, Sting talks about the process behind the album.
