Wildlife Resource Festival At Point State Park

The heart of Pittsburgh will host a salute to nature Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Point State Park is the location of the seventh Wild Resource Festival organized by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). The annual festival invites many wildlife organizations within the state to provide hands-on activities, educational exhibits, and nature walks. The event is free and no registration is required.

Terry Brady, a spokesman for the DCNR, said Point State Park was selected for many great reasons.

"There's so much going on, especially in Point State Park, recently there are so many renovations," Brady said. "It's just a tremendous drawing park. The amount of people visiting each year is incredible. That said, a lot of improvements in the mooring and the landscaping, it has a new look and we want to showcase that park."

The festival will feature live animal displays and demonstrations from wildlife scientists. Brady said the event helps celebrate the large number of state parks.

"A lot of Pennsylvanians are not privy to the wealth of great state parks that we have," Brady said. "We have 117 state parks and, it may sound trite, but we have urban parks, we have really, really rural parks, and it just gives the residents of the state a chance to come out and see what's offered."
