Long-time YMCA executive Rig Riggins has been selected as the new chief operating officer for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. Riggins currently heads the YMCA of the Inland Northwest in Spokane, Washington, where he's served since 2001.
"He comes to us with a wealth of experience. He has served in a leadership position with Y's throughout the country, has great skills and leadership abilities that he's developed through those positions," said Robert Cottington, Chairman of the Y Metropolitan Board of Directors.
Under Riggins' leadership, the Spokane Y successfully completed a $40 million capital campaign, the largest total ever for a Spokane non-profit organization. Cottington said that for the ever-growing Greater Pittsburgh Y, that is an asset.
"We'll be opening the new Thelma Lovett Y this spring and we'll continue to look for other communities that we can serve, and with that experience and leadership, Rig will play a substantial part in doing those things," he said.
The Thelma Lovett Y will serve the Hill District, and joins numerous Y locations in Pittsburgh and its suburbs. Currently, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh serves more than 90,000 people each year.
Riggins replaces Eric Mann, who left earlier this year to head the Jacksonville, Florida YMCA. Riggins will start January 2.
