Diego Garcia makes his first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va.
Born in Detroit and raised in Tampa by his Argentine parents, Garcia has an uncanny ability to convey romantic yearning in his work. His 2011 solo debut Laura was a DIY bedroom recording; a closely focused chamber-pop collection about unrequited love. Garcia's new album, Paradise, expands upon the romantic sound he'd begun to shape throughout his work on Laura. The album's diverse influences — from late-'60s crooners like Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg to Leonard Cohen and Julio Iglesias — reflect Garcia's cultural roots.
Today, Garcia is backed by his own accomplished band. Three of the songs in this set — "Darling Please," My Heart Is an Island" and "Thoughts of You" — were not heard during the original radio broadcast.
