Law enforcement in Pittsburgh shot and killed an alleged serial bank robber Wednesday night in Wilkinsburg.

According to the Allegheny County Department of Police, officers went to an apartment building where 49-year-old Shawn Stevens was expected to be hiding. Stevens is alleged to have robbed banks in Shadyside, Squirrel Hill and Edgewood this month.

Police say Stevens held a woman at knifepoint and threatened her upon the arrival of law enforcement. They say officers deployed tasers but that Stevens remained combative, and that both a Pittsburgh police detective and an FBI agent then shot him.

The woman was not injured, but a Pittsburgh police detective suffered a minor leg injury and is in stable condition.

The Allegheny County Police and FBI will investigate the incident. Findings will be turned over to the Allegheny County District Attorney and the U.S. Department of Justice.
