What Is Pakistan's Future Without Bhutto?

Journalist and author Shuja Nawaz, who knew both Benazir Bhutto and her father, discusses the impact the assassination will have on Pakistan's stability.

Nawaz had urged Bhutto to consider wearing "dragon skin," a form of armor made in the United States. When she learned that she'd need a favor from President Pervez Musharraf to request it, however, she told Nawaz that she'd rather not, he recalls.

"I'm sure she knew she would be the target of attacks," he says, explaining that she was fatalistic. "Despite this, she was out there among the crowd, in the open, waving to people.

"It's quite possible that in her death she may help galvanize the force for democracy and therein fulfill her own wish," he says.
