Florence And The Machine: Bold And Burning

Florence and the Machine had one of the biggest debuts of the year, as well as one of my favorite albums of 2009. Frontwoman Florence Welch is a bold, fashionable, artistic character with a big voice and beauty and charm to burn. In the U.K., she's on the cover of magazines and near the top of the charts. Her album, Lungs, hit No. 2 (just behind Michael Jackson) this past summer, and she's already played big festivals such as Glastonbury and Leeds. Here in the U.S., she's mostly been playing clubs, but has built a reputation for an exciting live show.

Welch arrived at WFUV the morning after a show at Bowery Ballroom. Still exhausted and a bit giddy, Welch makes up some words, talks about The Little Mermaid, reveals some of her musical heroes and gives an acoustic performance, which showcases her gift for crafting songs and belting them out.
