Life in the United States feels tumultuous with everything from the coronavirus pandemic, the protests against police brutality and voting in the upcoming presidential election. With so much happening, it can be hard to see the bigger picture when you’re living in it. But is it easier to take notice when you’re looking from the outside in?
If you ask the former foreign minister of Mexico, he might say so. In his latest book, “America Through Foreign Eyes,” Jorge Castañeda makes the case that Americans should care what the rest of the world thinks about us.
With years of experience living in the country, Castañeda has written about policy on both sides of the border, but he hasn’t always seen eye-to eye with the Mexican government or the U.S‘s. His recent comments earned him the ire of Mexico’s president, who demanded he apologize.
We talk with him about how American politics looks from outside our borders and more.
