Reporting On 'American Coyotes' Along The U.S.-Mexican Border

I was able to extrapolate a lot of really interesting things that no one has ever looked at before, like the fact that three out of every five coyotes ... on the border are American citizens. - Carl Prine

People who enter the country illegally have a great impact on the American labor force. But that same American labor is helping to smuggle migrants cross the U.S.–Mexico border. These smugglers, known as “coyotes,” are the focus of a week-long seriesin the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. Investigative reporter CarlPrine and photojournalist Justin Merriman joined Essential Pittsburgh to discuss their work.

Also in the program, we'll look at the challengesof being a startup in Pittsburgh with Thrill Mill's Bobby Zappala and acres of wetland that could be losing their Clean Water Act protections.
