The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh recently added an online collection of crafting classes to its catalog. Creativebugis an educational arts and craft community that offers videos and transcripts in topics like knitting, crocheting and jewelry making.
Creativebug courses range in difficulty from beginner to expert level. The website also offers free patterns and a Pinterest-like community to spark inspiration.
Electronic Resource Director Hilary Lewis said Creativebug’s accessibility controls made it stand out as a partner for the library.
“If you’re a visual learner or if you prefer to read through things, you can do it at your own pace which is really nice,” Lewis said.
Creativebug lets users filter lessons by the number of classes, techniques and even search for lessons that take a certain amount of time.
Lewis said Creativebug’s versatility appeals to a variety of users.
“It could be for someone like me who is a beginning doodler to somebody who has been doing this type of thing for a long time and is interested in promoting the materials they are making,” Lewis said.
Eventually, Lewis hopes the library hopes to offer in-person classes using Creativebug resources in the future.
A free Creativebug subscription can be found through the library’s website using a library card.
