We're excited to have another summer full of creativity at Sweetwater Center for the Arts! From June 3 to Aug. 16, we’re offering the opportunity to unlock your child’s creative energy and learn different forms of art. From connecting with nature for preschool age children to tapping into culinary skills for teens, we offer a wide range of classes for all age ranges. Most classes are for a 3-hour period, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., all taking place at Sweetwater Center for the Arts. 200 Broad Street, Sewickley, Pa., 15143.
Contemporary Craft is exploring the themes of grieving, mourning, and the celebration of life in its new regional, juried exhibition, “Hereafter.”
Craft objects have long been a vehicle for processing and understanding, and the act of creative expression itself can become an instrument for healing. Through the unique perspectives of the artists featured in “Hereafter”, this exhibition transcends individual experiences, to create a rich tapestry of cultural and ancestral connections, and brings forth an authentic portrayal of the grieving process. Each artwork becomes a poignant vessel, carrying the weight of emotions and memories.
To celebrate the high quality and breadth of work being created in the region, the call for “Hereafter” was open to craft artists based within 250 miles of Pittsburgh.
The gallery is open Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Live Animal Encounters run daily from 1:30-2 p.m. in the Earth Theater, located in Discovery Basecamp. Led by knowledgeable museum staff, encounters feature 4 live animal ambassadors, a mix of reptiles, mammals, birds, and invertebrates, from all around the world. Learn about the natural history, adaptive behaviors and unique stories of animal ambassadors that call our museum home.
For the safety of animal ambassadors and presenters, no late entries to the show will be permitted.
