“Oneness: Brie Ruais”, the first in Contemporary Craft’s new Tomayko Solo Artist Elevation Series, is a solo exhibition featuring the work of ceramic artist Brie Ruais.
The exhibition is a large survey of work, spanning eight years and exploring the idea that memory, place, and experience are based on an individual's perception and haptic experience.
Each of Ruais' works start with clay equal to Ruais’ body weight at the time. From there, she uses her body as a tool to push and shape the clay into its final form, completing the work in under 15 minutes.
“Oneness: Brie Ruais” is on view Feb. 2 - May 4, 2024. Admission is free.

You’re invited to celebrate the opening of Getting the Spirit Out, the 2024 Distillery Artist Residency Exhibition. This year’s Distillery artists have created a group of works that feel alive — channeling spirits and visualizing the unseen energy around us. Though they all work in different ways, using different media and processes, and draw on unique cultural backgrounds, the artists in this year’s cohort all use their practice to give life — to history, memory, suffering, and joy — and to set their creative spirits free. This year’s Artists-in-Residence are Imani Batts, Armanis Fuentes, Finn Dugan, Joshua Challen Ice, Evangeline Mensah-Agyekum, Sophie Thompson, and Caroline Yoo.
Getting the Spirit Out will be on view at the Brew House Gallery from May 9 to June 22, 2024.

The artists in Getting the Spirit Out, the 2024 Distillery Artist Residency Exhibition have created a group of works that feel distinctly alive — channeling spirits and visualizing the unseen energy around us. Though they all work in very different ways, using a variety of different media and processes, and draw on unique cultural backgrounds, the artists in this year’s Distillery cohort all use their practice to give life — to history, memory, suffering, and joy — and to set their creative spirits free. See what happens between exhibitions at our “Community Day: Behind the Scenes” - part of Remake Learning Days 2024! In addition to a variety of family-friendly, hands-on activities, we’ll also have a number of artist demos and a special “art handler” activity, which will show you what it takes to put together an exhibition. Community Day will also showcase the capstone projects of this year’s TACT (Teen Apprentice in Craft and Technology) participants.
Community Day is FREE and open to the public.
