North Shore Roadways To Close Long-Term

Two major construction projects will cause long-term road closures in the North Shore area beginning this August.

The Andy Warhol Bridge and the outbound East Ohio Street Ramp to Route 28 northbound will both be closed for some time, according to officials from Allegheny County and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The Andy Warhol Bridge, which carries 7th Street over the Allegheny River between Downtown and the North Shore, will be closed to both cars and pedestrians from Aug. 15 to Nov. 17, 2017.

Crews are set to install a new concrete deck, make structural steel repairs, upgrade the bridge’s draining system and repaint at a total cost of $25.4 million.

Access to the Roberto Clemente (6th Street) and Rachel Carson (9th Street) bridges will remain open during the 15-month closure, although the Clemente Bridge will remain restricted to pedestrians only during Pittsburgh Pirates games.

Traffic from East Ohio Street to northbound Route 28 will be detoured beginning Monday.

A $12.7 million dollar project will close the East Ohio Street ramp to traffic until Nov. 9 of this year as crews complete deck work and wall repairs.
