PIT Expands International Service, Adds Flight To Toronto

Porter Airlines will offer two daily flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport starting Sept. 21.

Although Air Canada already offers four daily flights from Pittsburgh to Toronto Pearson International, the flight to Toronto City Airport will likely serve a different clientele, according to Bob Kerlik, spokesman for the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

“We see this service as maybe geared a little bit toward the business traveler, perhaps, that’s looking to go to get into downtown very quickly,” Kerlik said.

Kerlik said City Airport, about two miles from downtown Toronto, would appeal to travelers choosing Toronto as a destination, while Pearson International is a major connecting point for those headed on to Europe and Asia.

The announcement is the latest in a series of recent flight additions at Pittsburgh International. He estimates they've added about 15 non-stop flights in two years. Toronto makes 50 total, Kerlik said.

“We are looking to expand our service to Europe and other international destinations,” he said. “We’re still in talks with several airlines, but we also want to make sure that whatever we get is a good fit.”

PIT currently offers six international flights: Paris; Cancun, Mexico; Nassau, Bahamas; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Toronto Pearson and Toronto City Airport.
