Duquesne University President Ken Gormley announced he would step down from his role in 2026.

Duquesne University president Ken Gormley announced Friday he will step down from his position next year.

During his tenure, Gormley launched the largest capital campaign in the university's history. The "Ignite" campaign had a goal of raising $333 million dollars by July 1 of this year, and the university said last month it has already exceeded that goal.

Gormley also launched Duquesne's new College of Osteopathic Medicine, which opened its doors in 2024. The opening of the college met a goal of the priests who founded the university. They tried unsuccessfully to open a medical school in 1910.

He first started teaching at the university's law school in 1994, and became well-known as an expert on constitutional law.

Gormley turns 70 this week. His resignation takes effect July 1, 2026 at which time he will have served as president for 10 years.

According to Duquesne, he has agreed to stay on as chancellor when his role as president ends.
