Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry has rolled out a new online tool aimed at helping students and job seekers make lasting career choices and making sure they get the right training.

Pennsylvania Career Coach provides information about growth careers, like Marcellus Shale, STEM occupations, and green sector jobs, according to Labor and Industry press secretary Sara Goulet.

"It will tell you what some of the wage options are, what jobs are out there now, and what the outlook is for that career in the next few years," said Goulet.  "You can do it by zip code, which is great.  Say you're in Philadelphia and you want to stay in that area, you can put in a Philadelphia area zip code, but say you're in college in Philadelphia but you hope to go back to your hometown in Pittsburgh--put in a Pittsburgh zip code and see what's happening there."

Goulet said it will be helpful to students choosing a major to know, for example, that teaching is a field where the state has more college graduates than jobs each year.  Career Coach is part of a larger state initiative that will be introduced later this year to help people find the jobs and training they need, according to Goulet.
