After days of rumors and at least 24 hours of nearly constant media scrutiny, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has scheduled a news conference for 11:00 Friday morning. The Mayor is expected to outline his plans for the future and will most likely be questioned about his plans for the upcoming election and the remaining 10 months of his first full term in office.
Rumors surrounding the mayor’s future as a candidate began to swirl around the city after he missed two events with Google over the weekend and then canceled several other appearances throughout the week including a few Democratic Party-related meetings and a scheduled interview on 90.5 WESA’s Essential Pittsburgh.
Ravenstahl campaign and mayoral handlers have offered a variety of excuses ranging from an illness in the family, to an “emergency,” and the much more vague “personal issues.”
The speculation comes with the backdrop of an on-going investigation into possible financial malfeasance in the Pittsburgh Police bureau involving debit cards that were issued to Ravenstahl’s body guards.
