A pipeline company fresh off a record $30 million fine for a 2018 explosion that leveled a Beaver County home has racked up hundreds of construction violations for hillside slips, soil erosion and stream pollution at construction sites for the same pipeline. 

Mariner East Construction Shut Down By Governor's Order

Following a day of confusion for residents living along the Mariner East pipeline in Delaware and Chester counties, pipeline builder Energy Transfer says construction of the line will shut down due to Gov. Tom Wolf’s order closing all non-essential operations in the state because of the coronavirus pandemic. Emergency repair work will continue.

A county prosecutor on Tuesday accused the owner of multibillion-dollar pipelines carrying highly volatile natural gas liquids across Pennsylvania of illegally using uniformed state constables as a private security force in what he called a “buy-a-badge” scheme.

Chester County District Attorney Thomas Hogan’s office also charged a security manager for Texas-based Energy Transfer LP and four men associated with security subcontractors that helped recruit constables to patrol the Mariner East pipelines.

DEP Orders Energy Transfer To Restore Streams It ‘Illegally Eliminated’ In Western PA

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection on Tuesday ordered a pipeline company to restore streams it illegally eliminated or altered while building a pipeline that opened last year.

The Revolution pipeline had only been working for a week when it exploded in Beaver County in September, destroying one home.  

The DEP says it found out about the stream damage while investigating the explosion.
