Mountain Stage
Marcia Ball performs on Mountain Stage in 2001.

Marcia Ball made her fifth appearance on Mountain Stage on May 13, 2001. Though she frequently toured with a band, she's accompanied here only by her own piano play, putting the spotlight on her own musicianship and vocals. Born in East Texas, Marcia Ball grew up across the border in Louisiana. Which explains why her playing and singing are often described as a perfect fusion of blues, zydeco, and Louisiana swamp rock. Beginning in 1980, Ball began releasing a series of widely acclaimed albums for Rounder, and in 2001 issued Presumed Innocent on the storied Alligator Records label, where she has stayed. Fans of Marcia Ball – as well as roadhouse rock and Blues – should check out Delbert McClinton's set from the same show, where she joins him for two songs.
