On BBC Radio1, I host a late-night show where I get to play whatever I want. BBC Introducing is a big part of the show; it's a platform where we support songs from unsigned or under-the-radar artists, or those who don't have a manager or agent or label and are just starting to break through.
That's where we first heard Låpsley, a.k.a. 18-year-old singer Holly Fletcher. She's from Liverpool, and when I first heard "Falling Short" on her Soundcloud, I thought she was a duo. But it's just Fletcher, who's textured her vocals so they sound deep and layered. It's beautiful electronic music.
Låpsley's got a bright future ahead of her, but her present isn't too shabby, either: XL Recordings (home of Adele and Vampire Weekend) signed Låpsley shortly after we featured her.
