The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for western Pennsylvania, east central Ohio and northern West Virginia, beginning Thursday morning and lasting until Friday at 4 a.m.
The forecast calls for steady, light snow in western Pennsylvania lasting from morning until about midnight, with a total accumulation of 1 to 3 inches. But heavier bands of snow may form and some areas may get 3 to 5 inches.
Tim Cermak, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, says drivers should be cautious today because high temperatures will only reach the mid to upper 20s.
"[On] any untreated roads, expect snow to begin sticking right away," Cermak said. "The morning commute may not be terrible. [But] people should be careful on their way home from work today."
Pittsburgh Public Schools and administrative offices are closed Thursday due to the weather.
Here is the updated total snowfall forecast. Snow will begin between 5am and 8am. Like the last disturbance, this one will likely produce similar impacts with deteriorating road conditions at times. The snow will end over the lower elevations by 10pm and the ridges much later. pic.twitter.com/0v2r15E4k4
