Essential Pittsburgh, 90.5 WESA's weekday magazine covering news and events in Western Pennsylvania, will air two specials focusing on the Johnstown region next week.
On Monday, September 28, the show will include a tour of Johnstown Flood Sites and a discussion on the region’s economic past, present and future with Linda R. Thomson, President and CEO of Johnstown Area Regional Industries and Johnstown Mayor Frank Janakovic. The show will conclude with a look at the Johnstown Region’s arts and culture scene.
On Tuesday, September 29, the show will open with a tour of the renovations and upgrades that have been made to the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, thanks to the Kraft Hockeyville USA initiative. (The Pittsburgh Penguins face off against the Tampa BayLightning game that night at the newly-renovated Arena). That will be followed by a discussion of how the Hockeyville competition pulled the community together and how the community is trying to make sure it has a lasting impact. Guests include Johnstown Tribune-Democrat Editor Chip Minemyer.
Hosted by Paul Guggenheimer, Essential Pittsburgh airs Monday through Friday at Noon and is rebroadcast a 8 p.m.
The show will conclude with a look at the impact that Hockey and the iconic movie Slap Shot have had on the community. Among the guests will be Slap Shot actor David Hanson.
