The inaugural Pittsburgh Bicycle Film Festival will take place Thursday evening, with doors at the Regent Square Theater on South Braddock Avenue opening at 6 p.m.
Twenty five percent of ticket sales will go to Bike Pittsburgh to support their mission to make the city and the region safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
According to Seth Gernot of Events Unlimited, there will be two unusual bikes in the lobby: one that makes popcorn by pedaling and one that makes smoothies.
"We're also going to have drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, free tastings from the East End Brewing Company, and we'd like to be green, so this is BYOC — bring your own cup — or water bottle with you, and that way we don't need to create a lot of trash," Gernot said.
The first film will be “The Impossible Hour” about an attempt to break a cycling record, then “Take a Seat Egypt” with a man on a tandem bike who invites people to pedal with him.
After the intermission is “The Cyclo Diaries,” featuring the international adventures of Australian tour guides and their pedicab, which has no gears and no brakes — quite a challenge over 1800 kms of sometimes mountainous terrain.
Tickets are available online until noon Thursday for $16 or at the door for $20, if any seats are left. Gernot said the Regent Square Theater has 300 seats.
