90.5 WESA Weekend Watch 6/15 & 6/16

This weekend features the swan song for this year’s Three Rivers Arts Festival. Highlights for the weekend include indie rock band The Airborne Toxic Event playing Saturday at 8 p.m. and the Grammy award-winning gospel and blues group The Blind Boys of Alabama playing Sunday at 7:30 p.m., both at the Dollar Bank Stage near Point State Park. Also be sure to check out the Artist Market, featuring more than 300 artists selling original fine art and fine crafts. The Festival continues throughout the weekend downtown.

The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is celebrating its 115th birthday this Saturday. Beginning at 11 a.m., the afternoon will be filled with live entertainment, arts and crafts, and more fun activities for all ages to enjoy. Come down to explore the 77-acre Kids Kingdom and Pittsburgh’s only public aquarium. Festivities will last through Saturday afternoon at the Pittsburgh Zoo in Highland Park.

The Pittsburgh Pride Festival continues this weekend with various events occurring along Liberty Avenue and elsewhere. This Saturday features Pride in the Street with Adam Lambert, and events on Sunday include a Pride March from 12 to 1 p.m. throughout downtown and the PrideFest street festival along Liberty Avenue.  Featuring street performers, food booths, and family friendly carnival games, PrideFest will follow the March and continue throughout the day until 6 p.m.

The 2nd annual Pittsburgh Independent Film Festival runs this weekend at the Father Ryan Arts Center. Featuring 60 films from around the world, PIFF includes a wide variety of genres to entertain all types of cinephiles. Short and feature-length documentary, narrative, experimental, and animated films will be showcased throughout Saturday and Sunday in McKees Rocks just a few miles from downtown.
